Use of information
The numbers you type into a calculator never leave your device. Not to us, not to a server, not to an analytics tool. The only information that reaches us is what you deliberately type into a form and submit, and there are only two of those on this site.
The calculators
Every free tool runs in your browser. When you enter your rent, your income, your debts or your savings, that calculation happens on your own device and the answer is drawn on your own screen. Nothing is transmitted.
Some tools remember your figures so you do not have to retype them. That memory is your browser's own local storage. It sits on your device, we cannot read it, and it is erased when you clear your browsing data or use the reset control on the tool.
This is a deliberate design decision, not a technical accident. A person working out whether they can afford a house should not have to hand their finances to a stranger to find out.
When you request a free sheet
What we ask for: your first name and your email address. Nothing else.
What we do with it:
- send you the sheet you asked for, immediately, on screen and by email
- send you further educational emails about Canadian money, if you consented
- record which sheet you asked for, so the emails that follow are relevant rather than generic
- count how many people requested each sheet, so we know which ones are worth making more of
What we do not do: we do not pass your address to an insurer, we do not add you to anyone else's list, and we do not treat a download as permission to telephone you.
When you book a financial review
What we ask for: your name, email address, telephone number, and whatever you choose to tell us about what you would like to discuss.
What we do with it:
- schedule the appointment and send you the confirmation and reminders
- pass it to the licensed professional who will conduct the review, so they arrive prepared
- match you to a professional licensed in your province, because insurance licensing is provincial
- record which page or post you came from, so we know which material leads to useful conversations
The professional who receives your information is bound by the confidentiality obligations of their own licence, and by the privacy law of their province, independently of anything on this page.
What we never do
- We do not sell your information. Not to insurers, not to lead brokers, not to anyone, at any price.
- We do not rent or trade lists.
- We do not share your information with advertisers or use it to build an advertising profile.
- We do not ask for financial account details. No bank account numbers, no card numbers, no Social Insurance Number, no policy numbers. If a page ever appears to ask you for one of these, it is not ours. Do not enter it, and please tell us.
- We do not require an email address to use a tool. Every calculator on this site is open, complete and free without one.
Email, and stopping it
We send email only to people who asked for it. Canada's Anti Spam Legislation requires that consent and we treat it as a real permission rather than a technicality.
Every email carries a working unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately. Unsubscribing does not remove your access to anything on this site, because nothing on this site is gated behind an email address in the first place.
Where the information sits
Contact records and the sheets themselves are held by service providers we use to run the site, the email and the booking calendar. Some of those providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to that country's laws. The privacy policy describes this, along with how long records are kept and how to have yours deleted.
Seeing it, correcting it, deleting it
You may ask at any time what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected] and you will have an answer within thirty days, at no charge.
Analytics, in plain terms
We measure which pages people read and which tools they use, because that determines what gets built next. This measurement is aggregate. It tells us that a page was useful to many people. It does not tell us who you are, and it is never combined with your contact record to profile you.
Cookie choices are handled by the consent banner. Until you accept, only the cookies strictly necessary to deliver and secure the site are set.
