Terms of use
In plain terms. Use the site and the tools freely, for yourself or with the people you help. Do not republish the material as your own, do not attack the site, and understand that free educational tools come with no warranty and no liability. Nothing here is advice.
Accepting these terms
By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. These terms apply alongside our privacy policy, our disclaimer and our use of information page, all of which form part of the agreement between us.
What this site is
An educational resource about Canadian personal finance, together with free calculators and downloadable sheets. It is not a financial institution, not a brokerage, and not a platform on which any transaction takes place. No money moves through this site and no account is held for you here.
No advice, and no reliance
The content and the tools are general information. They do not take your circumstances into account and are not financial, insurance, investment, tax or legal advice. You are responsible for your own financial decisions. Before acting, get advice from a professional who can see your whole situation. This is set out more fully in the disclaimer.
The tools are provided as they are
The calculators are offered free of charge and without warranty of any kind. We do not promise that they are free of errors, that they will always be available, or that a result they produce is suitable for your situation. Results depend entirely on the figures you enter and on the assumptions stated on each page.
We may change, suspend or remove any tool at any time, including one you have come to rely on. Figures built into the tools reflect rules that change, and a tool that is accurate today may need updating after a federal or provincial budget.
Acceptable use
You may use this site for your own personal or professional purposes. You may not:
- copy, republish, sell or redistribute the content or the sheets as your own work
- remove or obscure any attribution, disclaimer or source note
- scrape, mirror or bulk download the site, or use automated means that place an unreasonable load on it
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its underlying systems
- use the material to give financial advice while representing yourself as licensed when you are not
- use the site in any way that breaks Canadian law
Teachers, counsellors, settlement workers and community organisations are welcome to share links and use the tools with the people they serve. A link is always appreciated over a copy.
Ownership
The text, design, code, calculators and downloadable sheets on this site are owned by Get Better With Money Club and protected by Canadian copyright law. Government figures, statistics and the underlying rules of Canadian tax and benefit programs are facts and belong to nobody. Our expression of them does not.
The name and logo are ours. Please do not use them in a way that suggests we endorse you or your business.
Downloadable sheets
Sheets you download are for your own use. Print them, write on them, work through them with your family. Do not sell them, put your own branding on them, or distribute them as lead magnets of your own.
Links to other sites
We link to government pages and other resources so you can verify what we say. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.
Booking a review
Booking a financial review through this site schedules a conversation with a licensed insurance professional. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It does not create a client relationship until that professional confirms one in writing. How the professional is compensated is disclosed in the disclaimer, and you are entitled to ask about it directly at any point.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site, the tools or the sheets, including any financial decision you make after reading them. This includes indirect, incidental and consequential losses, and lost profits or savings.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here affects your rights under applicable consumer protection legislation.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be heard by the courts of Ontario, without limiting any right you may have under the consumer protection law of your own province to bring a claim where you live.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change when we do, and continued use of the site after that date means you accept the updated version.
