Privacy policy
The short version. The free tools collect nothing. Everything you type into a calculator stays in your own browser and is never sent to us. We ask for a name and an email address in exactly two places: when you request a free sheet, and when you book a financial review. We do not sell your information to anyone, ever.
Who is responsible
Get Better With Money Club is responsible for the personal information described here. Questions, access requests and complaints go to our privacy contact at [email protected].
This policy is written to meet the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, which applies federally, together with the provincial privacy laws that apply in Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta. Where a provincial law gives you a stronger right than this policy describes, that stronger right applies.
What the free tools collect
Nothing.
Every calculator on this site runs entirely inside your browser. The figures you enter, including income, debts, rent and savings, are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Some tools save your figures on your own device so you do not have to retype them next visit. That storage lives in your browser and is readable only by your browser. Clearing your browsing data erases it, and so does using the reset control on the tool.
You do not need an account, an email address or any identifying information to use any tool on this site.
What we do collect, and when
When you request a free sheet
We ask for your first name and your email address. We use them to send you the sheet you asked for and, if you consent, further educational emails. That is the whole purpose. We do not ask for your address, your date of birth, your income or any financial account information, and you should never send those to us by email.
When you book a financial review
The booking page collects your name, email address, phone number and the information you choose to share about what you want to discuss. This is used to schedule the appointment, to prepare for it, and to connect you with a professional licensed in your province.
Automatically, when you visit
Our hosting and security provider records standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request. This is used to keep the site available and to defend against attacks. We also use privacy conscious analytics to understand which pages are useful. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell traffic data.
This site sets no cookies. Our analytics are cookieless and do not identify you or follow you across other sites, so there is no cookie banner to accept. Some pages keep small amounts of information in your browser's own storage: the figures you type into a calculator, so a refresh does not lose them; the details you just submitted, so the confirmation page can show them; and a referral code if you arrived through one. That information stays in your browser, is never combined into an advertising profile, and clearing your browsing data removes it.
Consent, and taking it back
We rely on your consent to send you email. Canada's Anti Spam Legislation requires it, and we treat it as a genuine permission rather than a checkbox. Every email we send carries a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and costs you nothing else. You may also write to [email protected] and ask to be removed.
Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we were required to keep for legal or regulatory reasons.
Who else touches your information
We use service providers to run the site and the email. They may process your information only on our instructions and only to provide their service. They are:
- a hosting and content delivery provider, which serves the pages and filters malicious traffic
- a database and file storage provider, which holds the sheets and the contact records
- a customer relationship and email platform, which sends the emails and holds the booking calendar
- an automation service, which passes information between the above
Some of these providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States. While information is in another country it may be accessible to that country's courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under that country's laws. You may ask us for more detail about where your information is held.
If you book a review, your contact information is shared with the licensed professional who will conduct it. That person is bound by the confidentiality and privacy obligations of their own licence.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
Contact records are kept while you remain subscribed and for two years after you unsubscribe or last engage, after which they are deleted. Records connected to a financial review are kept for the period the professional's regulator requires, which is generally longer. Technical logs are kept for a short period and then discarded.
How it is protected
The site is served only over an encrypted connection. Access to contact records is limited to the people who need it and is protected by individual accounts and multi factor authentication. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the law requires.
Your rights
You may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and where it came from
- give you a copy of it
- correct anything inaccurate or incomplete
- delete it, subject to any legal or regulatory retention we are required to observe
- stop sending you email
Write to [email protected]. We will respond within thirty days. There is no charge. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to your provincial privacy regulator if you live in Quebec, British Columbia or Alberta.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in their province. If you believe we have, write to us and it will be deleted.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that materially affects how we handle information already collected will be communicated to affected subscribers by email before it takes effect.
